Envision Gen 3 Formula E

Vehicle Visualisation

Envision gained an advantage over the competition by creating a 3D model of their then top-secret car design

We produced a 3D model of a car and applied its livery, all from two basic line drawings.

Tasks: 3D Modelling, Shading and Rendering

Tools: Maya and Vray

Client: Envision Formula E Team

Agency/Studio: Direct

Team Members: Chris Beatty

I collaborated with Envision to bring the new Third Generation Formula E electric racing car to life through visualisation. In this project, I developed the model for the 2022 car launch, using Envision's 2D line art as our reference.

I also applied Envision's Gen Two 2021 livery to the new bodywork, transitioning between the generations. The resulting modelling and renders became some of the earliest public images of the car, making a significant impact in the industry.

The visuals gained widespread recognition and acclaim when Formula E introduced its new Generation 3 racing car and were prominently featured across multiple international media channels, solidifying their position as the most frequently featured launch renders of the Gen 3 car.

The renders were used across the motorsport and tech media. We just wish someone had told us that the Gen 3 has no rear brakes! Surprisingly, no one seemed to notice the"deliberate" mistake.

Additionally, it lacks spoke fairings and tyre supplier branding, both of which were added post-launch.
